Commenting on official figures showing that the number of homeless applications made to councils had dropped by 4.9 per cent in a year, Liberal Democrat Housing spokesperson Ross Finnie MSP said:
"Although I am pleased that homeless numbers are falling, I'm certain the drop would be more impressive if this Government was really committed to building social housing for rent.
"The Scottish Government has been in power for 16 months now and still we do not know how many affordable homes for rent they are planning to build. Ministers must come forward with a homelessness strategy, which includes details about how they will support councils to abolish unintentional homelessness by 2012."
