Alan Reid, Liberal Democrat MP for Argyll & Bute welcomed the recommendation from the Competition Commission to Lord Mandelson that he appoint a Supermarket Ombudsman.
Mr Reid said,
"I am pleased that the Competition Commission have recommended to Lord Mandelson that he appoint a Supermarket Ombudsman to oversee the Groceries Supply Code of Practice (GSCOP). Lord Mandelson must appoint an Ombudsman as soon as possible. The new Ombudsman's first job must be to investigate the huge gap between the price that farmers receive for their milk compared to the price on the supermarket shelves. The dairy farming industry will not survive unless farmers get a fair price for their milk."
