McArthur urges Ministers to act on energy report

Liam McArthurCommenting on the report from the Association for the Conservation of Energy and eaga Scotland, which finds that cutting climate change pollution from Scotland's homes could create 10,000 new jobs and that a 42% cut in pollution levels in Scottish homes by 2020 would give a £4billion boost to the economy, Liberal Democrat Energy spokesperson Liam McArthur said:

"There can be no better time to invest in green jobs that will boost the economy and deliver Scotland a lasting green legacy.

"Ministers need to take these impressive statistics on board because if Scotland is to meet emissions targets, then we need to see real action to make our homes more energy efficient.

"Just this month I revealed that only 4 out of the 140,000 homes sold last year were graded "A" for energy efficiency. But when challenged, the Deputy First Minister insisted that nothing more needs to be done to improve energy efficiency and instead of publishing an action plan for energy efficiency, the Government try to fob us off with yet another consultation.

"This report highlights the prize to be won in terms of job creation, warmer homes and reduced emissions. This win, win, win cannot be achieved by Ministers continuing to spin, spin, spin."
