Commenting on the devolution of animal health budgets to Scotland, Liberal Democrat Rural Affairs spokesman Liam McArthur said:
"Animal health policy is set in Scotland. Liberal Democrats have long argued that the budgets should be controlled here too.
"The previous UK Labour Government steadfastly refused to devolve animal health budgets to the Scottish Parliament, while steadily reducing the value of that budget.
"This early action by the new coalition Government therefore will be welcomed by Scotland's farming industry.
"We must retain access to the reserve, however. This will be essential in the event of any future major animal disease outbreak."
