Commenting after the Transport Minister's statement to the Scottish Parliament about the severe weather, Liberal Democrat Transport spokesperson Alison McInnes said:
"Last week the Minister proclaimed Scotland was ready for the arctic blast and that lessons had been learnt from last winter. Motorists stranded overnight on the M8 would disagree.
"People are making heroic efforts to get to work -doctors and nurses, carers, bus drivers, shop keepers - all doing their bit to help keep the economy going and safeguard vulnerable people. They have all been let down by a bumbling Transport Minister who didn't do his bit and allowed vital strategic links to seize up.
"This Minister is so out of touch, he announced to the world that his government was providing a first class response at the very moment when thousands of people were stranded on roads in freezing temperatures.
"Until yesterday nobody was suggesting Stewart Stevenson should personally clear the snow.
"But now the best thing he could do as Transport Minister is leave this chamber, pick up a shovel and start digging. He has no more credibility and no more believability. It's time for him to make amends."
