Most deprived not attending breast screening: Finnie

4.55.35pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 27th Jul 2010

Commenting on the latest breast screening statistics published today, Liberal Democrat Health spokesman Ross Finnie said:

“Women coming from the most deprived areas are the least likely to attend a breast screening. This is extremely worrying.

“If this trend continues, it will keep the cycle of deprivation and non-attendance going for generations to come.

“If caught early breast cancer is treatable. I urge all women to attend their breast screening and I implore the Scottish Government to do more to make sure screenings are available quickly and conveniently for those in the most deprived areas.”
